Coalition of contact lenses wearers concerned about price of product.
• Unilateral Pricing Policy or “UPP” is an anti-competitive, price-fixing policy that contact lens manufacturers are using to help their bottom line at the expense of the nearly 650,000 Illinoisans who rely on contact lenses to correct their vision.
• UPP allows contact lens manufacturers to dictate a minimum price at which their products must be sold. If a retailer chooses to sell the manufacturer’s product for less than the price it has set, the manufacturer will stop selling the product to the retailer.

Why are manufacturers using UPP?

• The only choice consumers have had in purchasing contact lenses is to shop around for the lowest prices, often turning to discount retailers like 1-800 CONTACTS. But now, due to UPP, that is no longer an option.
