I love that I have been boxed as 'generic', just adds fuel to the creative fire. As I see it, you're only as good as your last project, and I am sure there are creative dark-horses on this network, you just need to find them. :)

Not every designer suits particular projects, selectivity is key.

Wow. I almost felt a little sorry for myself and then I remembered I have a BFA Graphic Design degree and I'm not a generic designer who steals ideas, so I'm in the clear.
